Everyone has their own description of what a hero is. Some heroes can be everyday people, like our parents or teachers, or they can be unexpected heroes, like Bethany Hamilton. Bethany Hamilton is one of my biggest role models in life, with her bravery and courage. She is a great influence to many young people in her ways of faith.
Bethany Hamilton is such an inspiration to all. Her parents are Cheri and Tom Hamilton; they were surf hippies Sandler, 6. Bethany started surfing at the age of five, since she was born into a family of surfers Sandler, 7. Cheri and Tom taught Bethany how to surf Sandler, 7.
Once she started surfing, her competitiveness was because of her two brothers Hamilton, Bethany had many influences in her life. These influences were her parents and Sarah Hill, her youth leader.
Bethany and her friends were known as the Dawn Squad, because they liked to surf early in the morning Sandler, Bethany was eight when she entered her first surf competition.
Hanalei Pier- in Kauai, where I learned! Bethany says about the attack, "My left arm was laying in the water and my other arm was just holding onto my board and the shark, just, like came up and attacked me and it, kind of pulled me back and forth.
It was about a two- to three-second period and when it Surfing better than any of us.. If that doesn't inspire you, I won't know what will! Her deep passion and love for surfing is a true and unique asset to her as an athlete, as she states she's "passionate about the ocean", which is constantly shown time and time again anytime we catch her out on her board!
Not only is Bethany now a loving mother to beautiful baby Tobias, with her greatest joy being both a wife and mother, but she surfed throughout most of her pregnancy! And she still killed it better than you. From her point of view, there was always hope, and not only did she hold onto that, but she never gave up.
To never give up is one thing, but to do it with a good attitude in the midst of the practical challenges she would face on a daily basis is nothing short of extraordinary. Quite simply; her cup runneth over no matter the circumstance. You could never surf big waves with one arm. You could never compete at the top level with one arm.
You cannot achieve all your dreams because of your circumstance. Bethany always seems to be smiling. No doubt it is anchored in her hardly hidden faith, but it always seems to appear on a cloud of grace, love and… gratitude for the life she still is able to lead, despite all she has gone through and achieved. If I were to pick a role model for myself, my kids or even my business to follow — it would be hard to go past this inspiring young lady. Thanks Bethany.
